Kanaya Malakar
Graduate Candidate (Physics)
Brandeis University

I am a graduate candidate in Chakraborty group at Brandeis University, USA. I got my BSc and MSc degrees in physics from Presidency University, Kolkata, India. My research interests include statistical physics, soft matter, and biophysics.

For my graduate studies, I am is doing theoretical modeling of active solids. I also explored a new model of cellular organization in tissues. As a visiting student at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, Bangalore, I explored models of active particles. I am expecting to graduate soon. I am currently looking for a Post-Doc position.

I have experience in mentoring and teaching. I am the primary instructor of the course 'PHYS12B-Algorithmic Art', which I designed myself. I am very enthusiastic about scientific outreach and often combine my passion for science with my artistic skills.

I am dedicated to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in my workplace. At Brandeis, I co-founded the 'Women in Physics' group with a grant from the American Physical Society.

In my free time, I like to draw, paint, knit, crochet, and cook.
